The Board of Directors consists of the executives of Atlas Island as well as representatives from different regions. The board works to collate information and decisions from the membership at large. Atlas Island is a decentralized organization and thus decisions are made by the membership as a whole with the best ideas winning out in open debate.

Board of Advisors


The Board of Advisors consists of individuals with unique expertise applicable to accomplishing our vision. They are regularly consulted by the board for feedback on proposals as well as the overall direction of the organization. Many advisors hold influential roles in both the seasteading and free private cities movements.

Joe Quirk

Joe Quirk

President, Seasteading Institute

Joe Quirk is President of The Seasteading Institute and co-founder of Blue Frontiers. Joe Quirk is also a science writer, novelist, and memoir ghostwriter, with a national bestseller in each category. He is co-author with Patri Friedman of Seasteading, an Amazon bestseller in the category of marine engineering. Joe leads a team of lawyers, engineers, business leaders, artists, and investors to establish the first floating community with unprecedented political autonomy in the waters of a host nation.

Carly Jackson

Carly Jackson

Development Director, Seasteading Institute

Carly Jackson joined the Seasteading community after meeting a group of seasteaders at the Startup Societies Conference in August 2017. She has dreamed of living on a seastead ever since. She served on the board for The Center for Natural Living, a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating autonomous and sustainable communities. She has worked and volunteered for a number of nonprofit organizations and political organizations, building communities and training activists. She worked as Social Media Manager for Blue Frontiers, growing the digital presence of seasteaders.

Peter Young

Peter Young

Managing Director, Free Cities Foundation

Peter is the managing director of the Free Cities Foundation. Prior to joining the foundation, he spent most of his career in China supporting British businesses operating within the Chinese market. He has also worked as a writer and analyst for Bitcoin-focussed businesses Saifedean.com, Incrementum AG and Blockstream. Peter is passionate about the Austrian School of Economics and worked with economist Saifedean Ammous to develop a free online course that allows students worldwide to learn about economic principles.
